Skilled Migration

Skilled Migration – SkillSelect

SkillSelect is an online application service which assists with managing Australia’s skilled migration program. Those who are eligible and interested in migrating to Australia will be considered for a skilled visa after submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect.

Those with successful EOI’s will receive an invitation to apply for the visa they have expressed an interest in. SkillSelect covers the subclass 189, subclass 190 (nominated by a state or territory government agency) and subclass 489 (also nominated by a state or territory government agency).

Point-based skilled migration– the main skilled migration category

Independent migrants are selected on the basis of their skills, attributes and suitability for employment. They are not sponsored by an employer or relative in Australia.

Sponsorship by an eligible Australian relative or nomination by a state or territory government is also possible under points-based skilled migration.

Points-based skilled migration visas are subject to a points test.

You can be given points for a number of reasons, including your:

  • skills
  • age
  • English language ability
  • occupation
  • Australian work experience and Australian qualifications.

Not all skilled visas are points tested. See a summary below of the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) and Skilled Regional visa (subclass 887).
